Why do you say to wash the rice for this recipe but in other rice recipes you say that we don’t have to wash the rice?

I’d like to make this with brown basmati rice - it takes longer to cook, so thinking I maybe need to add more water and a longer sitting time? Could you give me a few pointers? 🙏

just a splash more water -maybe 1/4 cup more and longer lower simmer- sitting time is 20 mins
